Petite Anse (2)

In the village of Petite Anse, a small fishing community on the Haitian coast near Baie de Henne, a new space of hope is being built with the support of donors from the Archdiocesan Caritas of Olomouc: a chapel that will serve not only as a place of worship but also as a school, a community center, and a safe shelter in case of natural disasters.

A Place with Many Functions

The aim of the project is to build a multipurpose facility for about 300 residents of this remote area. The chapel will serve the spiritual life of the local community, but its significance will go far beyond religion. It will host children’s education (from preschool up to 4th grade), adult gatherings, as well as cultural and community activities. In times of crisis—such as hurricanes or heavy rains—the chapel will become one of the few safe buildings where people can take refuge. If a doctor visits the area, the chapel can also serve as a temporary health facility.

What Has Been Achieved So Far

Thanks to donations, we have been able to send a total of 10,000 US dollars for the chapel’s construction. The first installment was used to start the work—especially the foundations—and then we provided another 7,000 dollars to continue. Part of the funds covered debt from the previous phase, and the rest was used to purchase materials and pay for further construction.

So far, we have managed to:

  • purchase 100 bags of cement,
  • one ton of rebar and 50 smaller-diameter rods,
  • transport 43 truckloads of backfill material (macadam),
  • ensure delivery of materials to the construction site.

All this made it possible to continue with the structural work and move closer to the next stages of construction.

What Is Still Needed

To complete the main perimeter of the building, we still need:

  • 50 additional bags of cement,
  • 5 truckloads of sand,
  • 5 truckloads of gravel.

After that, the next step will be preparing the budget for the roof structure. Considering the situation in Haiti—which remains very challenging in terms of security, infrastructure, and supplies—this construction is a true challenge. We are therefore even more grateful for the efforts of the local people and the support of everyone involved.

Thank You for Helping Us Build More Than Just a Building

The chapel in Petite Anse will be a place where children can learn, adults can gather, and the whole community can grow and face life’s difficulties together in one of the poorest places in the world. Thank you to all donors who help turn this hope into reality.
