Thanks to contributions from the crisis fund of the Czech Charity Three Kings collection, it has been possible to provide the first supplies of construction materials and food after the devastating floods in the town of Baie de Henne, Haiti. People in the affected area can now begin repairing their homes while having their basic needs met.

Roofs and food: the first assurance

With the funds collected so far, materials were purchased for rebuilding homes and shelters:

Construction materials:

  • Wood 2×4×16: 200 pieces
  • Battens 1×4×16: 250 pieces
  • Corrugated sheets: 500 pieces
  • Nails (for sheets, sizes 8, 10, 12): 6 boxes
  • Cement: 140 bags

Food aid:

  • Rice: 130 bags
  • Peas: 50 bags

The support also includes school bags (200 pcs) and shoes (200 pairs) so that children can return to school, which has resumed classes after the floods.

Reconstruction continues, aid still needed

The materials purchased in Gonaïves have already arrived in Baie de Henne, and people have started repairs. Destroyed roofs are being replaced with new corrugated sheets, which are suitable for local conditions. At the same time, food and supplies for children are being distributed.

The situation remains very challenging – transportation infrastructure is limited, so everything must be moved by hand or motorcycle. The reconstruction process is slow and complicated, supplies of construction materials and food are limited, and transport from major cities to rural areas can take several days or even weeks.

Charity thanks donors

The Archdiocesan Charity of Olomouc and Czech Charity thank all those who contributed, giving the people of Baie de Henne hope for a new beginning. Aid is far from over – the funds collected are still being used to rebuild homes and provide for basic needs.

Every donation turns into concrete help: a plank, a nail, a bag of cement, or a bag of rice. The people of Baie de Henne know they are not forgotten – this support may be the greatest help they can receive in these difficult times.

The Archdiocesan Charity of Olomouc collaborates with Czech Charity, which, shortly after assessing the crisis situation, released CZK 500,000 from the crisis fund.
