Olomouc – Learn to be a seamstress, have a better wardrobe, equipped classroom or school library, have something to treat… In this way and much more, a container with a material collection, which the Archdiocesan Charity Olomouc will send to the Caribbean this autumn, will help poor Haitians.

You can start filling the container for Haiti these days. We will see if the weight of the shipment can be strengthened to a maximum of 14 tons.

We have been helping Haiti for 12 years. During that time, together with Czech donors, we mediated the education of more than 800 poor children. We intervened on the spot immediately after the devastating earthquake in 2010 and also last autumn after Hurricane Matthew, when we managed to secure new, more durable metal roofs for almost 40 families, as well as schools and destroyed churches. Again with the help of Czech donors.
Now it’s the turn for the Container for Haiti. The collection will last until September 30, 2017.

“The key issue is to equip the sewing workshop opened by our colleagues in Gonaïves. Haitians can learn the trade on sewing machines, get a job and at the same time start sewing school uniforms, which are mandatory for Haitian schoolchildren, even though many of their parents cannot afford to pay for them, ”says Klára Lőffelmannová from the Archdiocesan Charity Olomouc. He emphasizes that the collection mainly counts on pedal sewing machines, which are functional. It would not be possible to connect the electricity in the slum, because there is not enough electricity supply.
