Olomouc, Haiti – As of September 9, 2021, more than half a million crowns were collected at the Collection for Haiti. We’re not done yet!

Humanitarian and rescue work in Haiti continues, but the chances of finding survivors have disappeared. Now it is necessary to remove the wreckage and build housing for the victims of the earthquake that struck Haiti on Saturday, August 14, 2021, followed two days later by tropical storm Grace.

The shocks also affected our partners in Roche-au-Bateaux. All the adoptive children are fine, only four are left homeless.

In Roche-au-Bateaux, the local church was also damaged, which the locals are now trying to repair together.

For security reasons, we are not planning a trip to Haiti yet. Firstly, due to the instability of the country after the earthquake, but also due to the ongoing unrest in the streets and the impassability of the capital. We will also see the current deplorable situation being twisted by the presidential elections in the autumn.

However, we are in daily contact with our partners and we try to support them with what we can at a distance. In particular, to ensure a smooth start to school for all adoptive children, which was postponed to 4 October 2021 in the area affected by the earthquake and to 21 September 2021 in other areas.
