15 Years Since the Devastating Earthquake in Haiti
In January 2010, Haiti was struck by one of the most devastating earthquakes in history. The tragedy claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, millions lost their homes, and the country’s infrastructure was almost entirely destroyed. Today, 15 years later, the consequences of this disaster are still visible. Haiti continues to face numerous catastrophic challenges—from political instability and social and healthcare crises to a surge in violence.
The Archdiocesan Charity of Olomouc (ACHO) was one of the organizations that responded immediately to the tragedy. In cooperation with local partners, it launched projects aimed at recovery and support for the most vulnerable. Even today, despite the extremely difficult situation in the country, ACHO continues to support the people of Haiti. One source of funding for this aid is the ongoing Three Kings Collection.
Helping Even in Uncertain Times
Over the past 15 years, we have witnessed Haiti endure countless crises, but we have always tried to adapt our projects to the needs of the local people. The country is currently paralyzed by civil war, state structures are nonfunctional, and basic services such as education and healthcare have completely collapsed. Despite this, we remain committed to staying and assisting those most in need.
