The supply of food and drinking water outweighs the new car. Thanks to you
Haiti – Sisters of St. Joseph, who for years has been helping people in need in Haitian Gonaïves, already have a reliable car. Thanks to Czech donors and the Archdiocesan Charity Olomouc, the new off-road vehicle with a cargo space was also purchased. The nurses can transport food, drinking water and medicines to those in need today. The Olomouc Archdiocesan Charity team will use the vehicle for their annual missions.
The car will deliver help to poor schoolchildren and mothers as well as children suffering from hunger and malnutrition. Sisters from St. Joseph order are helping all of those people in need in their school and in the orthopedic and nutrition center. “There is a shortage of drinking water in Haiti, so the nurses have to go for supplies several times a week. They also bring supplies of food, medicines, and necessary things to the school, such as new textbooks every year. We will also use the new car for our missions,” says Klára Lőffelmannová from the Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc. According to her, transport in Haiti is complicated by heat, erosion during rains and often poor condition of cars, when the mountainous terrain gets busy, with the exception of not on stony roads – road or cracked tire. “Having a good car in good shape is a necessity in Haiti, without it you will not get anywhere,” Klara notes.
Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc launched the Car for Haiti money collection last year. Contributions from Czech donors helped pay for a Toyota Land Cruiser MWB off-road vehicle. It arrived in Haiti at the turn of this year. This week the vehicle was blessed by P. John, a missionary from America.
We thank all the good people who contributed to the new car and helped to ensure a reliable supply of vulnerable Haitians, especially children.
